Click here to share your facilities ideas for a donor awareness campaign.

Thanks for your innovative ideas and interest in donor awareness! Below are recent responses from HCA facilities across the nation.

From: Frieda Hudspeth - Medical City, Dallas

  • 30+ transplant recipients and/or spouses and the donor mother of a kidney recipient manned our tables in the main lobby, in 2 hour shifts over 3 days. The visitors and staff at our facility had not previously met a transplant recipient. Our recipients are friendly, outgoing and active in organ donation in the larger community. Our OPO (SWTA) promotes organ donation aggressively. I have included a list of l the contacts we used at MCD, all of whom were needed to coordinate our campaign. The Living Gift is our organ donation support group and it paid for balloons, which was our only expense (outlay).

From: Catherine Mercer - OU Medical Center

  • Door decoration contest for all departments in the hospital with a pizza party prize for the winning department. We had awesome door decorations.
  • Donor information tables were set up in the cafeterias with posters, donor cards and pins. These tables were manned by recipients and those waiting on a transplant with ribbons that identified them as such.
  • We borrowed a popcorn machine and made bags of popcorn with a donor sticker on it. These were distributed to the floor staff along with donor cards and information.
  • Local media was involved and interviewed a living donor pair during that week for the evening news.
  • Banners and posters were displayed throughout the hospital.
  • A hospital-wide cookout (hotdogs on the grill, chips and coke) for lunch outside on the lawn. We had guest speakers (recipients) who spoke to those assembled on what the gift has meant to them. It was very moving. Local news media was present and broadcasts were on all three local channels.

From: Amy Fortner - Centennial Medical Center

  • Sent cookies to departments with donor cards
  • E-mailed everyone with attached info
  • Hung a banner over office advocating donor awareness

From: Karen Johnson - North Austin Medical Center

  • Texas Organ Sharing Alliance (our local OPO) set up a donor quilt and book in our atrium during NOTDAW week. They had a display table set up with information and organ donor cards and staffed the booth from 11:30-1:30. We awarded door prizes each day (which the hospital purchased.) We also passed out organ donor cards with paychecks the Friday before NOTDAW week.
  • Our employee newsletter highlighted transplant during April and had a picture of the NOTDAW activities in May.

From: Patty Boyd - Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center

  • Article in MD Newsletter
  • Posters in all units
  • Table tents in cafeteria
  • Donor drive for employees. We asked transplant patients to help with this. Wonderful response - gave out green ribbons and license plate holders (bought with a donation from our volunteer auxiliary.)
